Escalo

A hold log for planks, hangs and isometric holds

A plank is measured in time. So are a dead hang, a wall sit and an L-sit. A log built around weight and reps has nowhere to put that, so holds end up in a note or not at all. Escalo logs a hold as a time, with weight when the hold is loaded, and keeps records that fit it.

Time is the number

Each hold set has a time field in minutes and seconds. You type the digits and the field fills from the right, so 130 reads 1:30 and 45 reads 0:45.

Escalo does not time the hold itself. Use the clock you already trust — a gym timer, a watch, a partner counting — and type the result. The field shows a grey suggestion of the time you held at that position last session, or of the set above it, so a repeat of last week is one tap on the checkbox.

Weight when the hold is loaded

A loaded hold — a suitcase hold, a plate pinch, a dumbbell side plank — has a load field beside the time, in kilograms or pounds. A bodyweight hold such as a plank or a dead hang has no load field at all, because there is nothing to put in it.

Holds in the library

The library has 27 holds, among them:

A side plank is logged as one time per set; Escalo does not split holds by side. Any hold the library lacks can be a custom exercise: choose hold when you create it.

Records that fit a hold

Escalo keeps two records for a hold:

Records update as you tick each set. The exercise's progress page charts your longest hold over time.

In the same session as everything else

A hold sits in the same workout as your lifts and carries, each with its own fields: a squat asks for load and reps, a carry for load and distance, a plank for time.

Escalo's active workout: a squat and a farmer's carry, then Front Plank with a grey suggestion of 45 seconds and no load field.
A hold logs as a time, next to your lifts and carries.

The rest timer runs between sets. It shows on the Lock Screen as a Live Activity and on a paired Apple Watch in the Smart Stack, with an alert when rest is over.

Free

Holds, their records and their progress are included in Free. Your training saves on your phone first and works offline, and Export my data in Settings writes every set to a CSV file, hold times in seconds.

Holds are one of six ways Escalo records a movement, alongside per-side lifts, carries by weight and distance, and supersets ticked a round at a time.
